INTRODUCING THE PATENTED ER+ZLD™

ER+ZLD™? What’s that!?

ER+ZLD™ stands for Energy Recycle + Zero Liquid Discharge. What is it?

ER+ZLD™ Desalination is a process that extracts fresh distilled water from ocean water.

The ER+ZLD™ System is a thermal system that accomplishes two very important processes that have not been achieved by current technologies used in today’s desalination plants.

First, the system introduces methods for continually removing the salt byproduct that may be processed and sold as Sea-Salt. The output is 100% potable water and dry salt, with zero liquid return. This feature eliminates the environmental problem of discharging the waste brine solution.

Secondly, the ER+ZLD™ System recovers the heat energy used in the vaporization process.
Heat loss in the distillation system is essentially eliminated, reducing energy requirements to approximately 1.2 kWh/cubic meter (264 gallons), far below energy requirements used in current technologies.

Example: The recently installed desalination system, in Carlsbad California, uses 3. 6 to 4.6 kWh/cubic meter.
Heat energy, used to evaporate water, (heat of vaporization) is recovered in the condensing phase (heat of condensation) and used to preheat the incoming seawater. This process is continuously repeated reusing the heat energy multiple times.

The process requires that very little heat energy, above the input seawater ambient temperature, be allowed to exit the system.

Small scale assemblies have been constructed and “proof of concept testing” has been completed.

The results of the tests prove that seawater desalination can be accomplished at costs equal to or less than current ground water supply sources.

This Project will make ocean waters an abundant, sustainable, and economical source of fresh water.
